Another barn pad

Just finished a job that took over 350 loads trucked in to raise an area that was totally unusable for a barn pad / pasture.

A proper slope

A properly graded slope achieves quite a few things. By "tracking " it in, this not only keeps erosion down to a minimum, but also helps to hold seed while germinating. A slope 0f 5:1 or 6:1 is suitable for mowing.

When you have apples....make applesauce?

Sometimes when I get a lot of "junk" fill dirt, I try to make the most out of it. Large rocks, roots, clay, mud, etc......I deal with it all.

This is some pretty rough material I recieved last week.

This is what it looks like when I get done with it.

How to build a job - Part 3

When planting grass seed for erosion control purposes, use annual ryegrass seed. It germinates very quickly and helps to hold the soil in place. This grass came up in 9 days.

Fill dirt is trucked in from another location and the spreading and grading begins.

This particular job is being worked from the back side out to the front, due to the fact that the trucks cannot travel thru the wet material they are bringing in. They run on the existing ground and I build it up to grade as we go.

A typical truck in our area carries 10 cubic yards of dirt.
